Town Council Meetings
Letterkenny Town Council meets on a monthly basis, except in August. Meetings are generally held on the second Monday of the Month, and begin at 7pm.
Meetings are held in Letterkenny Public Services Centre, on the Neil T Blaney Road, and are open for attendance by members of the public. Many meetings are well attended, particularly those discussing controversial issues of public interest.
The meetings are run to a set agenda. Councillors can submit up to 3 questions and 3 motions for discussion. This questions and motions must be submitted approximately a week in advance, and are then dealt with at the meeting. Most Council meetings also feature a series of reports from Council officials, regarding matters including planning, road development, housing and any other Council services. Members are made aware of any important developments in the town, and are presented with a list of all recent planning applications and orders passed by the County Manager.
The meetings are run by the Town Mayor, assisted by the Town Clerk, Mr Paddy Doherty, and Assistant Town Clerk, Ms Frances Friel. Most meetings are also attended by senior officials such as the County Manager, Michael McLoone, Town Engineer, Michael McFadden, Town Planner, Ruth Diver and Area Planning Manager Frank Sweeney. The local newspapers and radio station attend the meetings, and regularly report on their progress.
The next regularly Monthly meeting of the Council will take place on Monday, December 11th 2006 at 7pm.
